Dream Again

Yesterday God made it clear to me that He wants people to start dreaming again.

There is no shortage of reasons why people lose hope and let their passions pass away. God wants to resurrect your hopes and dreams today. God gives people dreams and visions and wants to see them become a reality!

Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they hated him even more. Genesis 37:5

I’m sure this has happened to all of us at some point. Are you allowing people’s opinion of you prevent you from pursuing a passion? Are you afraid of the people closest to you judging you for a crazy dream? Or is the fear of failure keeping you from stepping out?

Joseph went through years of slavery and prison before attaining the dream he once had as a young man. Yet he never let the chaos and difficulties in life destroy his dream.

I believe that fear is the biggest robber of dreams.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

Fear, anxiety, and worry is a spirit not from God and can often be masked as wisdom, especially in the church. I believe that the opposite of fear is not faith, but love. 1 John 4:18 tells us that perfect love drives out fear. That sounds like a nice thought, but how does it happen?

When we receive and experience God’s perfect love fear has to get out. Fear and perfect love can’t occupy the same space. We will never fully understand just how much God loves us, if we manage to grab onto a portion of His perfect love fear will leave. When we start feeling fearful or intimidated we can speak to that fear and tell it to leave because we know God loves us perfectly.

“And I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion.” Philippians 1:6

Do you have that confidence? The sureness of God fulfilling His promises and bringing your dreams and visions to completion?

In Hebrews 6 we can find some much-needed hope. Hope is not just something that sounds nice. Hope is described as an anchor. What does an anchor do? It keeps us from drifting away from where we’re supposed to be, and even when our hope gets dragged through the mud and sand it never lets us go. We can also read in Hebrews 6 that God cannot lie. If He made a promise to us we can confidently let down our anchor of hope and confidently pursue His promise.

Abraham hoped against hope that he would bear a child with his wife Sarah at 100 years old. When everything he saw looked hopeless Abraham had hope that God would fulfill His promise. Abraham and Sarah laughed at the goodness of God as they named their child Isaac, or “laughter”.

What would you do if you were ten time bolder? if you had ten times more confidence? Who would you talk to? What would you step out to do?

If you thought of anything, the spirit of fear is holding you back from your dreams.

God’s desire is to show you His perfect love. He wants to encourage you and He wants you to spend time with people who reflect His perfect love and encourage you towards your dreams, towards the promises that He made to you. Be mindful of who you share your dreams with, not everyone needs to know.

Pick your dream back up today with the confidence that God loves you, that God is for you, and that God wants to see your dreams fulfilled!

  1. Address different kinds of dreams- concrete & real and stories as your sleep- out of fear, hope, sentimental. I enjoy many thoughts about dreams. And hope like a anchor- very insightful. Thank you.
