God Did What?

“Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.” 1 John‬ ‭4:8‬

If God is love why do bad things happen? How could a loving God send people to hell? Why are people born with brokenness and sickness is God loves people?

I’ve heard people say that there could not be a loving God that sends people to hell or let’s kids starve. Looking at the world today it can be difficult to explain that God loves people and that God is the very definition of love. If God is love then He must be selfish or simply uncaring.

God wants to show every person how much He loves us, but we have some responsibility.

First off if God forces His love upon us it wouldn’t be love at all. Forced love is not true love. Forced love is a lot more like slavery. If God forces us to love Him we would simply be robots.

Our free will is the most powerful- God has a will that everyone would be in a relationship with Him. The devil has a will to steal from us, kill us, and destroy our lives. We all have a will to do as we please, even if it kills us.

God does not will for anyone to spend eternity in hell or starve to death. Americans throws 60 million tons of food in the garbage while people in America are starving. That is an issue with our human will, morals, and priorities, not God. Then Jesus died on the cross to save us from hell.

On the topic of people going to hell God actually said “over my dead body”.

We were born into a world where we are destined to drown. Because of our free will we have the choice to get in the boat of salvation or drown. No one can force us into the boat, but the invitation is open to everyone all the time. The cost for sin is death. We have all sinned and can choose to pay for it ourselves, or accept the free gift Jesus fully paid for. No one can force you to accept it, it’s a personal choice.

God didn’t even stop there, after saving us He gives us an opportunity to receive power, something churches ignore or blatantly deny today. “But you will receive power and ability when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.” Acts 1:8. Being empowered by the Holy Spirit places a responsibility on us. It’s much easier to say we are helpless. Yet the responsibility is ours to proclaim the Good News, to pray with expectation for signs and wonders that point people to Jesus.

How come there is so much sickness and hate if God is in control? God is in control, God is not controlling. The devil walks around seeking whom he can destroy. That means there are people he can destroy and people he can’t destroy. The devil has 0.1% power, but that has power over us if we ignore God’s power that He has given to us. God respects our free will so much that He won’t force His power upon us, God will never force healing upon you, God won’t force joy upon you.

The devil will force sickness and death upon us. The devil hates people because we are created in the image of God and he wasn’t. His hate is fueled by jealousy. If we do nothing then the small amount of power that the devil has will destroy our lives. When we resist the devil, when we resist sickness, when we resist his destruction he flees from us.

We need the power of the Holy Spirit. We need His power to rule over sickness, we need power to resist the devil. We need His power to pray and see Heaven come to Earth. We need His power to break generational curses.

The devil has convinced churches to deny any power of the Holy Spirit and deemed it to be weird. That is our choice- to either seek God’s power and witness the miraculous, or deny it and place all responsibility God for everything going wrong in the world.

  1. Yes- SPOT ON- Boom! So happy you found belief in God. And more. I know one day you would see the light. We would do our children best as a guiding light but we could never be overbearing, forceful or full of anger. And we enjoy your lessons, reasons, and ongoing surrounding by love.
