The Process

Are you in the middle of God’s process?

God’s process is messy, uncomfortable, and 100% necessary. God’s process is often unseen. The fact that it is unseen often frustrates us even more than the pain of the process because we want people to see what we’re going through and have compassion on us. But that’s how God works, He works in the secret, dark places, He creates and develops in the unseen.

Seeds only start growing underground. Film is developed in darkness. The Earth was formed in darkness. Babies are knit together in darkness. Even Jesus went through His process in the wilderness.

The process that God takes us through strips us of what we don’t need. God will take away the things that are slowing us down, He might take away relationship, habits, or a job that is slowing us down. God is peering into our future and sees what we need to put down in order to move forward. David knew that God was better than the things God has given us, David says that God is his shepherd and he doesn’t lack anything good. When God becomes your portion and your leader, and when God is where your satisfaction comes from, letting go of stuff becomes easier.

“The Lord gave another message to Jeremiah. He said,“Go down to the potter’s shop, and I will speak to you there.”So I did as he told me and found the potter working at his wheel. But the jar he was making did not turn out as he had hoped, so he crushed it into a lump of clay again and started over. Then the Lord gave me this message: “O Israel, can I not do to you as this potter has done to his clay?” Jeremiah 18:1-6

That is God’s question to you and me. Can I crush you? Can I take away who you think you are and craft you into who I want you to become, who you were intended to be? See, most people say they want to change but aren’t willing to pay the price. There is no lasting change without the crushing and shaping by God’s hand. Being willing to change and go through God’s process means being willing to be crushed into a lump of clay again and again and again. You need to go through the seasons where it feels like you’ve lost everything. Those seasons are when you get to know who God really is and who you really are.

The hope is that as you are being crushed in God’s hand. He is the one holding onto you. He never leaves you, sets you down, or takes His eye off you. He is the master potter and knows every detail required to turn your life into a beautiful masterpiece. He wants our change more than we do and is extremely careful of how He goes about it.

Be encouraged today that the process is for a season. Seeds that are planted do not stay as seeds, they grow into fruitful plants. Babies in the womb are born. Clay is formed into beautiful pottery. You cannot cut the process short, but you can make it longer than it needs to be. Learn from the process everything that God wants to teach you. Be moldable in His hand and willing to change. That is what will cause you to come out of the process as refined gold, more beautiful and valuable than ever. The process should be exciting because you know that God is creating something great, something that has never been seen before!

“But He knows where I am going. And when He tests me, I will come out as pure as gold.” Job 23:10
